MISSION
The rapid emergence of youth vaping cannabis has completely changed the landscape of adolescent substance use in North America and has become one of the most pressing public health issues of our time. While nicotine remains the most common substance encountered in vaping devices, cannabis vaping is now reported by one-third of youth who vape.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is about 50 times as potent as heroin. Worldwide, about 0.5 million deaths are attributable to drug use. More than 70% of these deaths are related to opioids, with more than 30% of those deaths caused by overdose. There are effective treatment interventions for opioid dependence that can decrease the risk of overdose, yet less than 10% of people who need such treatment are receiving it.
